SOY POWDER is derived from soybeans plant with a high quality of protein. It contains approximately 35.47% of protein per cup (172g). Major soy protein is glycinin, conglycinin, and bioactive protein such as lectin and lunasin. It is abundant, a natural source of commercial production for lactose intolerance and vegetarian practitioner. It completes the recommended nutrient intakes (RNI) for Malaysia which is 62g.
Soy is popular with phytoestrogen isoflavone. Phytoestrogen is plant-based estrogen that cannot be created by the human body. Thus it needs to be consumed to get its nutritional effect such as preventing breast cancer, enhancing heart health, improving skin health and aid in weight loss. Phytoestrogen contains the high level of plasma genistein helps to reduce certain cancer risk.
Besides, phytoestrogen also contains an antioxidant which attributes to lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA damage. Therefore, it leads to induce cell apoptosis and inhibit cell proliferation. Apoptosis is a morphological process of cell death in which it genetically eliminating cells to maintain the population of cells in the body tissue. It also acts as a defense mechanism to destroy damage and noxious cells such as cancer cells. Soy phytoestrogen also has the ability to prevent angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is a formation of new blood vessels, particularly helpful in increasing tumor size and spreading cancer to another part of the tissue and develop metastasis. Metastasis is a growth of new cancer cell colonies developed from the primary cancer cell.
Furthermore, phytoestrogen helps to improve skin care. This is due to the ability of plasma genistein to block UV-irradiation in epidermal carcinoma A431 cells. Genistein also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to increase collagen synthesis in human fibroblast cell culture. Antioxidant properties in soybeans help to reduce UVB- induce cell damage and retain skin cell’s ability to proliferate repair damaged skin. Soy milk also improves skin maturity by reducing wrinkles and erythema.
Another benefit of phytoestrogen in soybeans is their capability to prevent osteoporosis by restraining osteoclast activity. The osteoclast is the differentiation of macrophage producing a large multinucleate cell. It controls bone resorption causing osteoporosis. Soybeans contain approximately 40% of total unsaturated fat with no cholesterol and lactose. Most of the soy fat are polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) and monounsaturated fat (MUFA). 61% of PUFA consisting linoleic acid and an omega-3 fatty acid. It is essential to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. This is because PUFA and MUFA have lower triglyceride that aid in clearing cholesterol in the body. Importantly, soy is a plant-based food that considered as a beneficial food.
Preparation: Mix 30gm of Soy Powder (Less sugar or No sugar) with 400ml of warm water, stir well and serve.
